Who are We?

The Wellbeing Foundation is a Middlesex University social enterprise that promotes creating spaces for growth. But what does this mean in practice? Our primary aim is to to create partnerships with businesses, charities and other enterprises to offer opportunities for students to gain practical life and work experience. We also create initiatives within the University that allow students to gain the skills they need to achieve. We are unique in the fact that, for the most part, we are completely student/alumni managed. We believe this to be the most inclusive, innovative and creative approach towards learning.

Genesis

With growing interest and evidence regarding the role that social enterprises play in widening participation and reducing inequality, The Foundation was created in 2007 through the joint efforts of The Business School, and Sports and Recreation. Both departments saw how, upon graduation, students were left with little practical experiences to add to thier resumes, as well as to take into the workplace.

As a pilot effort, the Foundation organised a trip to The Gambia. The Foundation created links with local communities in the country which would allow students to participate in various acticities to put their theoretical knowledge into practice. The trip was an all round success, and has been run a further two times ever since.

Our Vision

To see human beings fulfilled! ...Sound sloppy? Or too optimistic? There's no other way to put it.
We've seen how, by creating a supportive environment, people can shine to thier full potential - and we want this for everybody. Learning is a fundamental human experience - we do it at every moment of every day - But how many of us are aware of our learning capacity and ability? How much of our learning actually stays with us?

Our vision is that, through our process of learning and working (same difference), every individual has an experience that is valuable, fulfilling and fun! But our vision does not end with The Foundation. Above all, we want to see students well-equipped to enter the working world. With great knowledge, experience and a greater sense of self, we envision our students unstoppable.

Core Values

  • Student Led - Today the Foundation is what it is because of the students who have been involved, and the very future of the Foundation will be determined by those to come. Truly, The Foundation belongs to you. This is the philosophy, and the practice.

  • Liminal Approach - The Foundation is self-directed. We all as individuals determine leadership and structure.

  • Autonomy - Students have the freedom to express whatever they feel and to move into any direction they want.

  • Open and Inclusive - The Foundation strives for equality by valuing diversity and recognising talents regardless of race, gender, sexuality, social background, etc.
